English as an Additional Language or Dialect
At Lakes Creek State School we have 1 EAL/D teacher. This teacher supports the children in the school who do not have English as their first language, but instead as an additional language or dialect. The majority of our EAL/D students are from Vietnam but we also have other children in the school who were not born in Australia. We also have indigenous students for which English is not their first language.
Teachers and Teacher aides work with the non-English speaking children to help them to develop their speaking, listening, comprehending, reading and writing skills.
